Frequently Asked Questions

How do you wash bedding?

These days, most bedding can be washed simply by tossing it into the washing machine.

To find the washing information for your bedding, check the tag or visit the manufacturer’s website.

Purple Bedding is both luxuriously comfy and easy to care for. Here’s how to wash and dry your Purple Bedding:

  • Sheets: Machine-wash your Purple sheets in cold water using a mild detergent. Avoid using bleach and color brighteners. Hang the sheets to dry or tumble dry on low heat.
  • Duvet: The Purple duvet is dry-clean only. It’s recommended that you use a duvet cover to minimize the amount of washing needed.
  • Weighted Blanket: The blanket’s cover can be machine-washed in cold water or dry-cleaned. When washing, use non-chlorine bleach. To dry, tumble dry on low heat and cool iron if needed. The weighted core of the blanket can only be hand-washed. We recommended using the blanket only when covered by the duvet cover to prevent the need to wash the core.
  • Mattress Protector: Machine-wash on a regular cycle and tumble dry on low heat.

How often should you wash your bedding?

It is recommended that you wash your bedding at least once every two weeks. Though, some people should consider washing their sheets as much as once a week, especially those who:

  • Are prone to night sweats
  • Sleep with their pets
  • Eat in bed
  • Use their bed as a place to relax during the day
  • Have an old mattress or box spring

Bedding should be washed often because bacteria, mites, and allergens are attracted to the hair, skin, and sweat that you shed each night. It doesn’t take long for your bedding to become a host to these intruders if left unwashed.

Here’s how often you should wash your Purple Bedding:

  • Sheets: Wash your Purple Sheets or SoftStretch Sheets at least once a week.
  • Duvet: If you use a duvet cover, you won’t need to wash your duvet very often. In fact, duvets can go five or more years without a wash. It is recommended that you wash your duvet cover once a month.
  • Weighted Blanket: Avoid washing the weighted core of the blanket, as it can only be hand-washed – you risk damaging the core if it is improperly washed. Always use the blanket with its cover. Because the cover is hypoallergenic, it can be washed less often. If you use the blanket as a duvet, you can wash the cover every 2-3 months. If you use the blanket outdoors, with family, or with pets, wash it once a month or as needed.
  • Mattress Protector: Machine-wash the Purple Mattress Protector once a month.

How do you layer bedding?

Layering bedding is an art in comfort and décor. When done right, your bed will feel luxurious and inviting.

Here’s how to layer your bedding:

  • Zero layer (optional): Mattress topper
  • First layer: Mattress protector
  • Second layer: Fitted sheet
  • Third layer: Flat sheet
  • Fourth layer: Duvet (with duvet cover)

If you’re a passionate bed decorator, you don’t have to stop at four layers. If you’re decorating with farmhouse bedding, you might want to add a bed skirt. Or, if you’re going for shabby chic bedding, you could use a vintage quilt instead of a duvet.

Additional layers could include a decorative pillow, pillow sham, stuffed animals, and a draped blanket as a finishing touch.

Which color bedding should you choose?

The bedding color you choose depends largely on the style of your space and your preferences.

First, define the style of your room or decide the style you’d like to decorate with. For example, if you’re going for a dreamy boho look, you might want some colorful sheets or a patterned duvet. If you have a farmhouse-style bedroom, solid whites and creams are recommended.

Whatever you choose, Purple has a color choice to fit your needs. Our sheets and pillowcases are available in six different colors ranging from soft whites to royal purples and powder blues.

Purple’s duvet is compatible with any duvet cover, so you can enjoy its plush, fluffy comfort no matter your décor style.

What is the coolest bedding?

For the coolest bedding options, choose Purple’s SoftStretch Sheets, duvet, and weighted blanket.

Purple refined its bedding for years before finding the perfect mix of technology and premium materials that make for a cool night’s sleep. Purple’s stretchy sheets are made with moisture-wicking, for a light and airy feel that’s incredibly soft to the touch.

Purple’s all-season duvet is filled with 100% polyester down – one of the most breathable materials ever made. Its plush quilted chambers allow air to pass through so you’re never searching for the cool spot. You also have the option of choosing a lightweight duvet, made especially for hot sleepers and those who live in warm climates.

The Purple Weighted Blanket was engineered to be the first-ever weighted blanket with dual-sided technology. One side is cozy for cold nights, and the other side is made with cooling tech fabric to keep you fresh and sweat-free while you’re enveloped in weighted comfort.

Which bedding material is the best?

The best bedding is breathable bedding. Breathable bedding material doesn’t restrict airflow and actively keeps you cool at night.

It doesn’t matter how luxurious your sheets claim to be. And as we all know, thread count can be misleading. It doesn’t matter if you spent a fortune on your sheets – if they make you feel stuffy and sweaty at night, you’re not going to be happy.

Look for bedding made with breathable materials such as:

  • Bamboo
  • Cotton
  • Polyester
  • Down alternative or synthetic down
  • Moisture-wicking fabrics

Purple bedding is specially engineered to keep you cool as you sleep. Its stretchy sheets are made with unbeatable breathability and smooth comfort. They work even better when paired with the Purple Grid. The open-grid comfort layer found on Purple mattresses maximizes airflow from the depths of the mattress all the way up to your bed linen.

Purple’s Mattress Protector is engineered to keep allergens and moisture out while letting air pass freely through the mattress and bedding.

The duvet and weighted blanket are also made with breathable fabrics, and filled with temperature-neutral materials, like cotton and glass beads, to prevent overheating when you’re all bundled up.

What kind of bedding do I need?

Your bed is an expression of yourself and your unique style. You should feel free to dress it up and show it off in whatever way makes it feel luxurious and inviting.

However, there is some basic bedding that every bed needs to keep you comfortable and protect your mattress. Here are the must-haves:

  • Fitted sheet: A fitted sheet is the bare minimum separating you from your mattress. It anchors to the corners of the mattress to keep your skin on a soft surface, regardless of tossing and turning.
  • Duvet: Also known as a comforter, a duvet keeps you warm and secure throughout the night.
  • Pillow: A pillow will help keep your head and neck in the correct position to prevent tension and pain from poor spinal alignment.

Those are the bedding basics. And while you could technically get away with only the basics, why not go a step further to maximize comfort? Consider also adding:

  • Mattress Protector: This bedding item will make your mattress waterproof and protect it from pests like mites. It will also extend the life of your mattress and protect its warranty.
  • Flat Sheet: Some say the flat sheet is on its way out. We disagree! A flat sheet is a crucial buffer between you and your duvet. It helps you sleep cooler and more comfortably, and will also prevent your duvet from getting dirty. (Translation? Less washing!)

Making the bed doesn’t have to be a chore. When you have comfortable bedding you love, it becomes a form of self-expression and style for your bedroom.
